In recent years, the Republic of Belarus has been actively developing a system of specialized classes that train future engineers. Today, in general secondary education institutions of the Brest region, there are more than 30 engineering classes and groups that are under the control of the Brest State Technical University. About 450 students study in them.

- Undoubtedly, the number will grow. But we are not chasing quantity, but, first of all, we work on quality, - emphasized the Rector of BrSTU Sergey Antonovich Kasperovich.

The creation of engineering classes is aimed at helping schoolchildren decide on their future profession and develop their interest in technical specialties. Within the framework of these classes, students receive in-depth knowledge of mathematics, physics and computer science - disciplines that are the basis for the successful mastering of engineering professions.

Particular attention is paid to practical classes, where students can apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. This allows them to better understand the essence of engineering problems and develop skills in solving complex problems. During the optional classes "In the World of Engineering and Technology: Choosing an Engineering Profession", BrSTU teachers share advanced knowledge from the technical industry with students of engineering classes.

To get into such classes and groups, you must pass a competitive selection. Among the requirements is an average score of at least 7 in the certificate of general basic education. The same minimum is set for grades in subjects that are studied at an advanced level. In this case, we are talking about physics and mathematics.

One of the important aspects of the work of engineering classes is close cooperation with leading enterprises in the region. Students have the opportunity to visit production sites, participate in internships and projects that are implemented jointly with partner companies. This gives them real experience of working in a production environment and allows them to better understand the specifics of the chosen profession.

Graduates of engineering classes of BrSTU have significant advantages when entering technical universities. They can enter without exams for technical specialties if their certificate contains a corresponding entry, which gives the right to enter without entrance examinations. The grade for specialized subjects (physics, mathematics) should be no lower than 8, and for other subjects - no lower than 7.

The practice of cooperation between higher education institutions and enterprises within the framework of trilateral agreements on targeted training of specialists proves its effectiveness. Therefore, those students of specialized classes (groups) who will not be able to take advantage of benefits upon admission (for example, do not get the required number of points) can choose the path of targeted training. Among the partners of BrSTU in engineering cash desks are KUP "Brestzhilstroy", OJSC "Savushkin product", Zhabinka sugar plant, Brest meat-packing plant, RUP "Brestenergo", LLC "IT School".

Profile education continues to develop in the architectural and construction direction. In January 2024, an agreement was signed to open an architectural and construction class at Secondary School No. 10 in Brest. Cooperation in training in profile classes is organized between the Education Department of the Administration of the Moscow District of Brest, BrSTU, the Committee for Architecture and Construction of the Brest Regional Executive Committee and JSC Construction Trust No. 8. In addition to profile subjects, students master the curricula of optional classes "In the World of Architecture and Design - Choosing a Profession", "Fundamentals of Academic Drawing", "Fundamentals of Architectural Composition". The project of engineering classes is an important step in the development of the technical education system in Belarus. Thanks to the support of BrSTU and the personal participation of the rector of BrSTU Sergei Antonovich Kasperovich, schoolchildren have the opportunity to lay the foundations of their future professional career already at school. These initiatives contribute not only to the training of qualified personnel, but also to the strengthening of ties between educational institutions and industry, which is of great importance for the economic development of the country.
