Presentation of the documentary film "Holy Martyr John of Riga. On the Passionary Path"

On September 19, a presentation of the documentary film "Holy Martyr John of Riga. On the Passionary Path" was held in the assembly hall of the Brest State Technical University.

The event was attended by Metropolitan Seraphim of Penza and Nizhnelomovsk, Archbishop John of Brest and Kobrin, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Brest Oleg Yuryevich Murashov, Chairman of the Brest City Council of Deputies Andrei Andreevich Filanovich, clergy of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Penza Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, students and employees of BrSTU headed by Rector Sergei Antonovich Kasperovich.

The presentation was opened by the BrSTU folk academic choir "Belaya Vezha", performing spiritual works such as "Kyrie Eleison", "Come, let us bow down", "The soul called", "From my youth" and "Prayer".

The documentary film, directed by Nikolai Mikhailovich Vasiliev, tells the story of the life and deeds of the holy martyr John of Riga, Archbishop of Riga and all Latvia. The film includes archival materials, interviews with historians and clergy, as well as artistic reconstructions of key moments in the biography of the saint.

The first part of the film is dedicated to the life of the holy martyr John from birth to his departure from Penza to Riga in 1921. The second part tells about Bishop John as the primate of the Latvian Orthodox Church, his service, martyrdom and veneration throughout the Orthodox world.

After watching the film, Metropolitan Seraphim of Penza and Nizhnelomovsk answered questions from the audience. This event has become a significant event in the cultural life of Brest. Holding such events helps to strengthen spiritual and cultural ties between peoples, and also helps to preserve the memory of outstanding personalities who contributed to history and culture.
